Hazrat Khwaja Mueenuddin Chishty (Allah's Mercy be on him) was born in Sanjar (Iraq), also known as Sajistan. His birth, accoridng to some, is 14th Rajab or 11th Rajab 536 A.H. and also 9th Jamadil Akhar 523 A.H. (Aayeena-e-Tasawwuf).

His father Sayed Ghiyasuddin Hasan (Husaine) Allah’s was wealthy as well as pious. His mother Sayida Mahinoor (Allah's Mercy be on her) (Hasani) was also a very pious lady. Both the parents were descendent of the family of Hazrat Ali (Allah be pleased with him).

Thus Hazrat Khwaja Garibnawaz’s (Allah's Mercy be on him) lineage can be traced to Allah’s Messenger (Blessings of Allah and Peace be on him).
