Khuwaja Gharib Nawaz> Spiritual successors of Khuwaja Garib Nawaz

Spiritual successors of Khwaja Garib Nawaz

Hazrat Khwaja Sahib made Hazrat Khawaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Qaqi (Allah's Mercy be on him) his successor (Delhi). Hazrat Khwaja Quibuddin Bakhtiyar Qaqi (Allah's Mercy be on him) made Hazrat Baba Farid Shakar Ganj (Allah's Mercy be on him) his successor in pak pattean, West Pakistan.

Hazrat Baba Farid Shakar Ganj (Allah's Mercy be on him) made

(1) Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Aulia (Delhi) his successor and

 (2) Hazrat Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir (Kaliyar). Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Aulia made Khwaja Naseeruddin sor (Delhi) and Hazrat Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir made Shamshuddin Tush of Panipat his successor. The followers and Khalifas followed the path shown by Hazrat Khwaja Sahib and have in their own way kept up the banner of the Chishtiya order.

Khwaja fakhruddin Gurdezi was a cousin and spiritual brother of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib. He had come to India with Hazrat Khwaja Sahib and after Hazrat Khwaja Sahib’s Passing away from this duties as prescribed by Hazrat Khwaja Sahib. Hazrat Fakhruddin Gurdezi became the chief Khadim and lies buried in a store-room at the side of the main entrance to the tomb of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib. The paternal genealogy of Khwaja Fakhruddin Gurdezi goes up to Imam Husain (Allah be pleased with him). His descendants are Known as Khadims or Saiyedzadas. The progeny of Sheikh Mohd. Yadgar are known as Sheikhzadas and they also render services at the Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib.

The Khadims are hereditary and they perform priestly functions. They are also known as Mujawars. They have great devotion for Hazrat Khwaja Sahib and his shrine and are also its custodians. The entire maintenance of the Dargah is managed and and supervised by them. They introduce the pilgrims to the shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib and mediate for them. All the gifts and offerings are considered to be the right of the Khadims. All the religious ceremonies and other functions are conducted and performed by them. Now the Khadims community has gained official recognition.

The Khadims daily perform Khidmat (service) of the shrine. During Magrib (sunset), just before prayer time, there is ‘Roshan’. It means ‘light’ i.e. to burn candles and recite ode of light. At this time the Khadims and pilgrims assemble together at the worthy threshold of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib and pray for benediction, not only for themselves but for others also and for the welfare of Chishtiya order. It is believed that the prayer offered at that time meets with success and is granted by Allah.

The period of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib’s Urs is celebrated with grandeur and fervour from 1st Rajab to 9th Rajab. The whole city of Ajmer wears a new look and the shrine is illuminated. The royal mausoleum of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib radiates light and splendour and spiritual consolation. Special prayer known as ‘Shijrah’ is recited and it is very efficacious.

On the 6th (Chhati Sharif) of every month, the Khadims get together and pray Qul (Q: 112) Khatam and give Isale sawab to Hazrat Khwaja Sahib.

At this time also the Roshni prayer, the Shijra and the Salaami are recited. Niaz (sweets) is distributed. Many people from far and near make it a point to attend Chhati Sharif.

Not only do people come on Chhati or Urs but anytime anyday. Despite the passage of time after many centuries, the Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Sahib is an asylum for the multitude of people irrespective of any distinction. The spiritual facours and munificence showered by Hazrat Khwaja Sahib upon humanity at large by the Grace of Allah is unimaginable.
